Quick Update!

Hey everyone!

I realize my posts have become more and more spaced out than they usually are... and for that I apologize >_< So to fill the awkward silence, I thought I'd quickly update all of those that care lol. We are currently moving house aaaall the way from the 5th floor to the 3rd. Talk about an ordeal! :P ...So it's not a huge change, but it's still a lot of work. The layout of the apartment is exactly the same except backwards which is taking a bit to get used to. Also, the kitchen is considerably bigger and the living room, bedrooms, and bathroom are a bit smaller. I think someone messed up the measurements during construction! :/ But it's 10000 yen cheaper a month so really, what's a few inches.

We are also selling our paua shell jewelry at a pasifika event in Roppongi this week! Check it out if you're around the area! There are performances from the Cook Islands, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, India, and Hawaii. I have already bought a whole bunch of Polynesian stuff, mostly hair clips and things, including a new pa'u skirt which I love! I have been looking out for a more traditional pattern rather than the floral kind, and I found one that was perfect! It used to be 8000 yen and I got it for 4500 yen, which is still kinda expensive in my books but mehhh. There aren't many opportunities for me to buy Polynesian stuff in Japan so I don't mind!

My pretty sisters!
My sister, Laura, also flew in from New Zealand for a visit which has been fun! Her and Ric have buying up the place! La came and helped us sell our jewelry :D We really got into it and drew us some moko's lol. I think that is the first time I have ever had one! I was never in the kapahaka groups back home, now that I think about it. It was fun and the guy that was selling with us wanted one too! We told him that the men usually get the whole face done and he was like uuuuh just the chin please! :D

A lot of people were interested in it and it was a good way to draw people to our stall. Reia's cuteness also helped too ;) Here's a preview of her mini photo shoot with Aunty La taken today!

I have also started teaching a small hula class and have begun tutoring English at home. Busy, busy, busy! But I would rather be doing all of this then just staying at home doing nothing. I have done that already and it's not that exciting. My highlight of the day would usually be at 12:30 when CSI would be on t.v.. The only drama that I can enjoy in ENGLISH! So worth the bad acting (since Grissom left, it just hasn't been the same! Gah!).

Anyway, that's what's going on right now!

Hope you're all doing well :D

Crafting with Shelby!

Yesterday, I went to a mates place to do some crafting and make these adorable barefoot sandals! A HUGE thank you to my friend, Shelby, for having us over and for letting me use her amazing supply of craft stuff!! ^__^ またしようね〜!

It was a lot of fun, and now that I think about it, that was my first ever craft date! Mum started cracking up laughing when I told her that I was going to a friends place to craft. Before having Reia, I was not interested in anything crafty AT ALL! But now, I see so many cute things that I can't wait to make for my little munchkin ^_^ I'm not the most creative or talented person when it comes to craft or DIY, but Reia doesn't know that so meh I say. MEH!

I found this awesome tutorial on The Creative Muster (a chick from Aussi!) which was really easy to follow (she also has some other cute things on there, like her 3D Butterfly Wall Deco!). The part that took the longest to make was the flower, but the actual assembly of the sandal itself was quite quick and easy. These are PERFECT for summer! Reia keeps pulling her socks off and she doesn't need shoes, so these will keep her looking not so bare/cold and very styly at the same time ;) (Not sure of "styly" is a word outside of New Zealand... but you're all smart and can figure it out lol) Shelby also mentioned that they can be worn over tights in the winter time! Just an added bonus to the already major cuteness factor :)

 Cutting out the petals

 Trying them on...

They fit!

We also squeezed in a CUTE butterfly clip and a really easy flower clip!

We didn't do the antennae because it looked kinda... weird :/ But I don't think it really needs it anyway.

And then she taught me how to make this easy as flower :)

Thanks Shelby!

9 Months Today!

Three quarters of a year are up! Our little bundle of joy is not so little anymore, but still a joy!

  • She loves Okaasan to Issho (kids program on tv) and especially the Power Up song. When it comes on she gets very smiley and jumpy
  • She claps... with her feet :/
  • She is rolling around all over the place! Finally, we have an active child! She has been trying to crawl too but her legs go really stiff and straight and she can't really do anything. She can push up on her arms but her legs are still dragging behind her haha
  • She can put her dummy back into her mouth and turn it the right way up! It's funny watching her trying to do it while she's half asleep hehehe
  • She can hold her own bottle
  • She gets constipated easily. It's hard to get extra fluids into her too so it can be a problem
  • She can go to other people most times and won't cry... but still prefers Mummy ^_^ Yay!
  • She grabs, pulls, and bites on everything she can get her little hands on. Including my hair. Not to mention the slapping during breast feeds -_-
  • She loves being outside and is a good little traveler. We don't usually get any crying unless she's really tired
  • Her favourite toys are mostly plastic packets or bags. She prefers the wet wipes packet over her toys any day
  • She can recognize her own name, she lifts her arms if she wants to be picked up, and I guess her eye sight is really good because I was across the hall from her at the chapel and happened to glance over at her and she was staring at me. It was only until I smiled at her that she fully recognized me and started smiling and then crying coz she wanted to come over lol. I never knew she could see that far!
  • She can pull herself up on to her feet if someone holds her hands. She can't quite use inanimate objects yet
  • She has started scratching her chest lately which is a worry. Jun has eczema and really dry skin and so it's a sign she might have it too
  • She is wayyy too heavy for her bouncy seat now. If left in it for more than 10 minutes, the material usually gives and she ends up on the floor :)
  • Her smile is a perfect semi circle and she holds her mouth in that position for ages. It looks like something out of an anime but can look a bit freaky after a while :D
  • She likes books and seeing words. I probably should read to her more
  • She is still allergic to eggs and will be able to get her allergy test next month
  • She sleeps at 10am, 2pm and down for the night around 7 or 8
  • She can put herself to sleep fine if she can't see me, but if she can then we won't rest until I pick her up
  • She has 2 teeth! They finally cut through and she didn't cry as much as I thought she would. But she did wake up a lot more during the night

She is due for her checkup within the next 2 months so I don't have her exact measurements yet and judging from last time, I'm not so trusty with a measuring tape and scales. I think I will just wait lol

She is a very smiley and curious child. She has gotten a lot more active since last month so let's see if she feels life taking a stab at crawling this month!

We have been super busy lately. Going to different weddings between Osaka and Tokyo! Phewww traveling takes it's toll! We also sold our paua jewelry at a big hula event which was fun. Preparing for that was so much work! But it was a good experience and we got a lot of good feedback :) A few kumu's and musicians from Hawaii came to the event and Japanese halau's danced. They all had their hair fluffed up and their costumes and big chunky leis on. The keiki dances were gorgeous! Beautiful little girls. There were also Samoan, Tahitian, and Maori numbers. I love how when Japanese like something, they go all out and are so passionate about it. I bought a couple dresses too, yay!

We have also been thinking of moving coz our place is a bit expensive, but our neighbourhood is sooo good, we don't want to leave! We have everything we need right by our apartment, so it's the perfect location. Jun's sister, who works in real estate, found a slightly cheaper place in the same area. Turns out it's in the same building only 2 floors down LOL so we will be moving to the 3rd floor in 2 weeks. We are selling our jewelry at another event coming up in 2 weeks as well so we are going to be extremely busy! And I don't get enough sleep as it is!

Well that's what's going on with us at the mo :)

Have a good one!
